John 5 tells the story of a man who laid beside the pool of Bethesda for decades, hoping that the water would be stirred and he would be healed. Then Jesus came and told him to focus on the healer, not the method. After his healing, the man met Jesus a second time and was warned to "quit sinning or something worse may happen to you."
